Attention Teachers!

This is a website that you’ve got to give a look. I came across this website awhile back and didn’t initially look into it too much. Then I was randomly came across it again when the CEO spoke at Kevin’s company last week, then that evening he randomly sat down by us at dinner. Then, to add to the coincidence, we saw him again after breakfast the next morning. Call it a small town, but I never ignore coincidences!
So, I felt it necessary to do a little post about it. Given that I have lots of friends who are teachers, it seems overly appropriate to let all of you know about this great website. First, it is called DonorsChoose (http://www.donorschoose.org). From a 30,000 foot view, the site basically gives teachers a forum on which to post their students’ needs, for example - a certain book for the class or materials needed for a classroom project. Then donors are able to go to the site, look through projects that have been posted by teachers, and donate to a cause or project that they support. For donors, it is a great way to really focus your donation on a cause that you personally connect with.
For example, Kevin (being an economics nerd) recently donated to a teacher’s request for 20 copies of a ‘econ nerd mystery’ novel for her class. The teacher felt that the novel, “Murder at the Margin,” was a great way to open her students’ minds to the changing economy. Kevin agreed, so he donated. Simple as that. That teacher’s request was fully funded within a few months– success story!
So… for all my teacher friends - I know you have those needs for supplies, books, materials and items on your ‘wish list’ for your students. Just take 20 minutes, put together a project proposal of your needs, and post it. There is absolutely no risk, and only good can come from it. Make sure you tell the story of your cause or project, and use keywords that donors who may be interested can easily search for.
And, don’t forget to tell me how it goes! :)
