Venues - The Search has Begun!
Over the weekend, we took our first few visits to some possible reception venues! It was a great start. The best part for me is that Kevin and I are on the EXACT same page with what we like and what we don’t. I can imagine that not being on the same page could be a frustrating start of wedding planning!
As I’ve mentioned, we both want a water/boaty venue or a winery. So naturally the first place we looked was the hub for most of our sailing activities - Lake Union. We checked out three venues – The Lake Union Yacht Club, the Skansonia and the Lakeside Events Center. Of those three, our favorite was the Yacht Club. We also really enjoyed the Skansonia, which is a ferry boat on Lake Union, but my feeling is that it may be too boaty. And yes, I know I said I wanted a boaty venue, but I have to draw the line somewhere! I felt like the character and old world charm of the ferry boat might take over the wedding, and not the other way around. The Lakeside Events Center was really nice and had a great view, but we felt the layout was just a bit awkward for our group size so we crossed it off immediately. We also visited a few winery venues in Walla Walla over the weekend. However, the minute we heard that Washington State law requires that wineries can’t serve anything other than wine (as in NO beer, NO liquor whatsoever) we decided it wasn’t the right venue for us. Maybe it is silly to base our venue off of what we can serve to our guests – but oh well! If our guests want a beer… we’re going to give it to them!! :)
We have a handful or other venues that we’re excited to look at over the coming couple weeks – wish us luck! Kevin set a lofty goal of having our venue nailed down in the next 2 weeks so we’ll need all the luck we can get!
