The Clover Hype…
I posted about the Clover Coffee maker a while back. Since then, the Seattle-based Coffee Equipment Company won ‘Start-up of the Year’ at the Technology Alliance I attended a couple months ago, then they sold to Starbucks and plans are in order to install up to 80 machines in Starbucks stores nationwide. I also discovered that our contract CFO is the only person (outside Howard Shultz) to have one installed in his home - crazy!
So, knowing all this I was super excited to see that Wired had an article about them this month. After reading four pages of interesting tid-bits about how Howard Schultz believes the Clover will bring back the ‘Starbucks’ experience, the marketing behind the idea, the viewpoints of the founders, and also reading about the brewing process of the Clover - why it’s different, etc; I was seriously let down by the last sentence of the article… “This coffee tastes a little bit like hype.” After all that, really?!
