Quiara…
I have to just do a little shout-out to my 14 year old niece, Quiara.
This girl is so amazing it blows my mind. She called me yesterday from the SeaTac airport as she was on her way to California to attend the David Beckham Soccer Academy. She came across this academy around Christmas-time and decided it was something she’d like to do. She then raised money on her own so she could go (it was pretty pricey!). I’m so proud of her for seeing something she wanted to do, putting her mind to it and making it happen. She never once acted nervous about going to a camp where she wouldn’t know anyone, she never complained about traveling alone for the first time - she just did it.
When she called from the airport during her layover, I honestly got teary (happy teary) talking to her and hearing how calm and collected she was while waiting during her layover, eating Chinese food and sitting at her gate. I think I told her a million times “you’re sooo grown up!” But she is, and I am amazed by her maturity and ambition. She even delivered a speech at her middle school graduation a few weeks ago, something that 14 year old me would have NEVER had the courage to do.
She is also the most patient and caring people I’ve ever met. She is the one in our family who best deals with my sister, who is developmentally challenged. She is the girl at school who will stick up for the kid that gets bullied. She is the girl who is nice to everyone, but you also can’t mess with her. :)
I am so excited to continue to watch her grow and become an amazing woman, which I know she will be.
I love you so very much Quiara, kind of obsessed with you really! You are my soul sister. I aspire to be more like you every day. Your patience, your courage, your honesty, your supportive nature and your ambition truly inspires me to be a better person. Thank you for that!
