Netflix causing random childhood reminiscing…

Based on a random conversation with a co-worker about all the goofy things we used to watch as kids, I decided to fill my Netflix queue some some random movies from my childhood.  The first on my list is, The Last Unicorn, a movie that I made my mom rent EVERY time we would go to the video store starting about age 5 up until maybe I was age 7 or 8.  And, just to place this in context, this is back when we’d go to the video store to rent a VHS and the VCR that came in a weird plastic briefcase-style carrier.

It is always strange to revisit something - be it a book, movie, or place that you haven’t seen since childhood.  It never is quite like you remember it.  First of all, this movie is pretty weird, I won’t lie.   I don’t know if anyone else ever watched this movie as a child - but the story, the plot, the characters - all weird.  Some things definitely surprised me when watching this, namely that Mia Farrow and Jeff Bridges are the voices of the main characters and also that “America” does all the songs in the movie.  Also I noticed that all the animation was done in Japan, little did I know that I was into Japanimation as a child!

My mom called during the movie and was laughing at the fact that I was watching this movie, I think she secretly wanted to watch it with me!

So, next on the list of childhood movie reminiscing… Return to Oz!  I know Michelle is going to be excited for that one too! :)
