Restaurant Recommendation of the Year!

I have my restaurant recommendation of the week, month… no… year!  FareStart, at 7th & Virginia in downtown Seattle.

Today we went to FareStart for lunch.  This was my first time ever eating here and I can’t believe it took me so long to go here!

First of all, this is a meal you can feel good about.  FareStart is a job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged people.  FareStart helps these disadvantaged individuals get real-life work skills in the food industry as servers, bussers, baristas and cooks at this great restaurant.  People not only learn a trade that will get them employed, but they learn valuable life skills that they might not have otherwise had a chance to learn. Over the past 15 years, FareStart has provided opportunities for over 2,000 people to transform their lives, while also serving nearly 3 million meals to disadvantaged men, women, and children.

So, the ‘why you should feel good about supporting them’ reasons aside… the food was FABULOUS!  The ingredients were fresh, the menu was creative, the presentation was beautiful, ambiance was great, and there were lots of vegetarian options and even a few vegan options.  I had the ‘field roast’ sandwich which is a hazelnut encrusted lentil sage patty topped with arugula, tomato, vegan fig spread, Dijon mustard and served on vegan potato bread.  Oh my gosh this was GOOD!  Next time, I am getting the ‘crab and scallop mac & cheese’ which the server said was ‘decadent.’

I can’t wait to go back.
