What I’ve been up too…
I’ve been failing to update my little blog lately with all the things I’ve been up to. Most of the reason is not having my camera this week since I left it in New York. I do have Kevin’s camera but I just am too scared to bring it with me anywhere. If I accidentally drop my own camera in the water, that’s one thing. If I drop Kevin’s camera, that is quite another. And as most of you know, I have quite the history of sacrifying cameras and phones to some body of water. Be it a pitcher of beer, a toilet, a water bottle in the purse, a pool or a lake.
So here’s a quick rundown of my week so far sans photos…
- A/C slumber parties! Over the past three days I’ve had a few of my girlfriends (I call them A/C refugees) staying with me to avoid the sweltering heat in their apartment buildings with no air conditioning. It is fun having girlfriends stay the night, it feels like high school again. On Wednesday night, two of my best high school gf’s were staying with me and we were laughing about the fact that it is 10+ years since high school, and we’re still having slumber parties!
- Tow, Tow, Tow Your Boat! This Tuesday’s Duck Dodge race could not have been more fun! It was sunny and a hot 95 degrees in Seattle. We went out on a great boat (37’ Jenneau) and caught some good wind… at first. The wind died right around the 2nd marker, so much so that we all decided to take a swim in the lake. When we found that we could swim faster than our boat could sail, we all thought it would be funny to swim-tow the boat over the race finish line! My arms are still a little sore from towing the boat through Lake Union for a half hour - what a good workout!
- Hot Child in the City: Wednesday was a great night with my former roomie, Michelle (I miss her!). As Wednesday was the hottest Seattle day on record with a tempature of 104 degrees - poor Michelle’s 3rd floor apartment in an older brick building was intolerable. So she came over for a little A/C TLC including dinner and a slumber party. We cooked an amazing meal of BBQ’ed cilantro shrimp, a summer spinach salad and lavendar Dry Soda. See Michelle’s pictures of our dinner here.
- Hot Tub with a View: Last night was the Downtown Sailing Series, which in and of itself - is ridiculously fun. The race takes place in Elliott Bay and always promises great views of the city. On certain special days, our captain sometimes like to opt-out of actual racing and install a hot tub on the bow of his boat, you know - just for fun (see last year). Last night was one of those nights where we were greeted with a hot tub, ready to go on the bow of the boat. We motored around with the racers, lounging in the hot tub and taking in the views of the city from the sailboat tub - seriously, can it get better than that?!
- Reunited and it Feels so Goo-ood! Tonight Kevin is finally coming home from New York. He’s been in there for 2 weeks of training. I say “finally coming home” but I did get to see him last weekend and I know two weeks isn’t that long. However this was our first ‘big separation’ so it was no fun no matter how you slice it. I am really excited to have him back.
And that’s what’s up lately. I know if I don’t update, I’ll get a phone call from mom - I gotta keep the readership happy! :)
